Mutations in this gene disrupt intestinal development and can cause early onset inflammatory bowel disease and intestinal atresia. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2014] PHENOTYPE: Homozygotes for a spontaneous mutation exhibit reduced growth, sparse hair, thickened, scaly skin, increased numbers of splenic B cells, macrophages, and erythroid cells, elevated IgE, glomerulonephritis, and forestomach papillomas.
