The encoded protein is restricted to the central nervous system. The protein may play a role in neurite outgrowth, neural cell adhesion and modulation of sodium channel function. PHENOTYPE: In spite of having decreased conduction velocity in the optic nerve and ultrastrucural alterations within the hippocampus, homozygous null mice are viable, fertile, and display normal behavior. [provided by MGI curators]
