FUNCTION: [Summary is not available for the mouse gene. This summary is for the human ortholog.] Guanine nucleotide dissociation stimulators (GDSs, or exchange factors), such as RALGDS, are effectors of Ras-related GTPases (see MIM 190020) that participate in signaling for a variety of cellular processes.[supplied by OMIM, Nov 2010]
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous mutant mice exhibit reduced tumor incidence, size and progression to malignancy in multistage skin carcinogenesis. [provided by MGI curators]

Protein Function and Prediction

RalGEF Ral-GDP dissociation stimulator (RalGDS) is a ubiquitously expressed effector of Ras-related GTPases (e.g., R-ras, H-ras, K-ras, Rap, ralA, and ralB), which are involved in several signaling pathways including oncogenic Ras-induced cellular transformation (1-7).  RalGDS is dispensable for mouse development, but functions in Ras-induced oncogenesis by controlling survival of transformed cells through the JNK/SAPK pathway (7).

Background

Ralgdstm1Cjm/tm1Cjm; MGI:3574574

involves: 129X1/SvJ * MF1

Homozygotes have in reduced tumor incidence, size, and progression to malignancy in multistage skin carcinogenesis, and reduced transformation by Ras in tissue culture (7).
