Protein Function and Prediction

Kcnab3 encodes Kv-beta-3 a subunit of the heteroligomeric 'shaker'-related voltage-activated potassium (Kv) channels that function to return a depolarized cell to a resting state (1;2). Kv-beta-3 can induce the inactivation of Kv1.5 (2). The alpha subunits of the Kv channels are integral membrane proteins, while the beta subunits are cytoplasmic (2). Kv-beta-3 is primarily expressed in the brain (1;2).
