However, the encoded protein lacks caspase activity and appears to be itself cleaved into two peptides by caspase-8. PHENOTYPE: Homozygous mutation of this gene results in embryonic lethality by E10.5. Mutant embryos exhibit cardiac developmental abnormalities and pooling of blood in the head and abdominal regions. [provided by MGI curators]
