Mutations in this gene have been associated with microencephaly, cortical malformations, and mental retardation. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2011] PHENOTYPE: Mice for a hypomorphic allele exhibit reduced brain size due to decreased neural progenitor cells. Cells show spindle instability, spindle assembly checkpoint activation, mitotic arrest and cell death. [provided by MGI curators]
