PHENOTYPE: Homozygotes for a transposon-induced allele are more susceptible to endotoxin shock, sepsis, and autoimmune disease. Homozygotes for a hypomorphic allele show reduced growth and postnatal lethality; surviving adults lack Meibomian glands and show vertebral, reproductive organ, and fertility defects.
